Large 20th Century Original Oil Painting by Serge Poliakoff
Serge Poliakoff was a Russian-born artist linked to the School of Paris and postwar European abstract movements. Known for his bold color blocks and puzzle-like compositions, he aimed for a “monumental” quality in his work, believing a painting should feel larger than its size. Born in Moscow in 1900, he fled the Russian Revolution and eventually settled in Paris in 1923. His abstract style was influenced by Wassily Kandinsky and Sonia Delaunay, whom he encountered while studying in London in 1935. Poliakoff passed away in 1969, and his work is now in major collections worldwide, including MoMA, the Tate, and the Hirshhorn Museum.
