This glaze is a rich frog green with rusty colours emerging through the yellow speckles and paler tones. In Gaelic “machair” means low lying grassy plain, only occuring on exposed western coastlines.
Iona’s collection is influenced by the winter colour schemes on the Isle of Lewis. In her structures she has tried to capture the form of something dicovered on the beach after months of battering from the sea -something found and cherished. The glazes each portray elements of the landscape – beach, earth and ocean.
