19th Century Southern Italian Glazed Terracotta Pitcher

This hand-thrown utilitarian pitcher originates from Southern Italy and dates back to the 19th century. Pieces of this specific style and form were historically produced for everyday use in regional households, primarily serving as vessel containers for storing and pouring water or wine.
The piece was wheel-formed using a coarse local terracotta clay. It features a classic bulbous, biconical body, an applied vertical loop handle, and an integrated pouring spout. Subtle, horizontal incised corded bands accent the midsection of the frame. The exterior is finished in a traditional copper-oxide glaze featuring shades of green and cream. This glaze was applied using a regional splash technique, allowing the colours to drip naturally down the body and leave portions of the lower clay base exposed.
As an authentic example of 19th-century regional folk pottery, this item shows clear physical signs of its age and historical domestic use. There is noticeable glaze wear, surface abrasions, and visible chipping concentrated around the upper rim, the handle joints, and the base footer. Please review all provided photographs carefully to assess the specific surface patina and structural wear before purchasing.
