Antique Wool and Silk Needlepoint Tapestry Fragment
An antique European wool and silk needlepoint tapestry fragment, likely dating to the early 18th century (though unauthenticated). The panel is worked in a dense tent stitch, depicting a central pastoral or allegorical figural scene framed by an organic foliate and floral cartouche. It features a period-characteristic palette of muted ochre, terracotta, dark blue, and cream.
Originally used as a fire guard, the piece is currently housed in a dark wooden frame. The reverse is finished with a striking olive green velvet backing. This high-quality fabric backing makes the fragment exceptionally well-suited for repurposing into a prominent decorative luxury cushion if removed from its frame. The textile shows minor historical fading and wear consistent with its significant age. We would recommend getting in touch to see more imagery or if possible making an appointment to view in person if you are worried about the condition.
